Develop the summer reading habit

Great Schools offers ten easy tips for inspiring children to make reading a part of everyday life, even during hot weather. http://www.greatschools.org/students/homework-help/summer-reading.gs?content=67

New! Youth Computer Station

Visit a quiet corner of our sunny children's room to play (and learn) with two software games: Ghost Hunters (a "find it" game for the older set) and (for the younger crowd) Dr. Seuss Preschool: Green Eggs & Ham and Reader Rabbit: The Great Alphabet Race. Each of the games encourages reading, listening and vocabulary growth. Best of all, they are engrossing enough to allow parents some time alone to search the stacks or explore the world using our nearby public access computers.

The Pennies for Pages Collection

  • The Story of Doctor Doolittle by Hugh Lofting, ill. by Michael Hague
  • Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella
  • Shopaholic and Baby by Sophie Kinsella
  • Lanie's Real Adventures: an American girl by Jane Kurtz
  • Heidi by Johanna Spyri
  • Children of the Wolf by Jane Yolen
  • THE TALE OF PENNIES FOR PAGES -- Junior Girl Scout Troop 54066 (which met in our library) spent a school year encouraging patrons to fill huge jars with pennies. The now-disbanded troop  presented the librarian with $101.03 worth of pennies--converted into a lightweight check--on June 4, 2009, during its final meeting. Later, several of the girls met with our librarian to make book selections. Troop members were: Morgan Hartley, Star Heffner, Caitlin Kolick, Sierra Lee, Dakota Staley and Rebecca Staley, led by Toni Hartley and Claire Kolick.

    Summer Reading Club

Our summer program schedules will blend with your family's summer fun. Registration is required to help us prepare for your children in grades 2 - 6. This year's theme is Make A Splash. Check back for details of the activities and stories our librarian and volunteers are preparing.

    Cupcake Decorating Contest

We're planning a Cupcake Decorating Contest for this summer's Open House. Now is a good time to begin perfecting your confectionary skills. One special awards category will be "Heroes"--the same theme as the Washington/Greene Public Library System's fall fundraiser.

Train Your Brain While Stopping World Hunger

    Thank you!

When you see Laura Angelo, please extend your gratitude to her. Laura recently donated a comfortable pink Queen Anne chair for the Children's Room.

When you see the Hartleys -- Ed, Toni, Jordan & Morgan -- thank them for donating a water cooler to the library. While you're at it, thank them for being Library Angels these many years.
